From Me to You…
Ahhh, the best laid plans of mice, men, and photographers…
At the May Guild Meeting we had an opportunity to glean some useful photography information from our very own William Hogan. As an aside, I have been a student of William for about two years now. It was really good to sit in the audience and understand every-thing he said.
I apologize for not actually getting to the practical photography part, and I thank those of you who brought along pieces to be photographed, albeit by your own hand. Some very good questions were asked during the meeting.
We are planning on revisiting this subject soon, with the practical part to be held at the CAC in good natural light. So stay tuned…
I am also very happy with the nominations we have for board and committee members. Actually, when you look through the names, you will see a dynamic group of artists willing to step up, and do stuff. I am very much looking forward to us working together. This coming year should be a fun, messy, learning experience.
Actually doing things, of course, is what art is all about: creating that one great thing out of something else.
If elected, during my year at the helm, it is my intention, together with the other board and committee members, to provide an atmosphere where participation and creativity thrives.
I'm sure you're aware the Carrollton Artist Guild has shrunk a bit over the past few years, and sadly, participation. This is our Guild, we need to nurture it and make it strong. I'm sure you all have friends or family who are artists, or art lovers. If we all invited just one other person for every meeting we will soon fill the room.
I appreciate that this is a “light” newsletter. In the coming months we hope to have plenty of information to whet your appetite for art. If you have a hankering to write something, have a tip to share, or an exhibition you visited, just let me know. We’ll find space for ya!

The Road Ahead
Coming up in July/August we have the Gallery at the Cultural Arts Center for the exhibition “New Work”. Art submitted must be work that has not been displayed at the CAC, or any other outlet in or around Carrollton. Deadline for submission is June 29. This should be challenging!
Tom Nielsen will have an exhibition this September in the Roush Gallery. More details to follow…
I would like also to propose a sort of a round table meeting on a regular basis. My thoughts are that we could meet at a convenient location in Carrollton for an hour or so, every other week perhaps, to drink sweet tea, coffee, or maybe something stronger, and talk art? Let me know how you feel about this.
